Both Woodhouse and Woodhouse Eaves Village Design Statements were adopted by Charnwood Borough Council as Supplementary Planning Documents [SPDs] from 15 May 06. They were Commended in the Charnwood Design Awards for 2006 and certificates were presented to representatives from both groups at a ceremony on 6 December 2006. Paper copies are available from the Clerk to the Council. They cost £5 each. They can also be downloaded from this website.

VDS documents are important because they describe the features that local people feel are important. They cover building designs and the surrounding landscape. They act as a guide to developers, planners and residents when considering applications for new development or extensions - and in our Conservation Areas, trees are also covered. Their overall aim is to ensure that any development is in keeping with the surroundings. A Woodhouse Eaves Character Appraisal was both produced and formally adopted by Charnwood Borough Council and can be found on their website at www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/woodhouse_eaves_conservation_area

The pictures show two houses in our villages that have won design awards.
